What would our founders think? July 4th column by Gary Mienert

What would our founders think?

This is the fourth year I’ve been privileged to write a column for the Lakeland Times for Independence Day.  It is an honor for me to do so.  With celebratory intentions I’ve always attempted to write about our glorious nation and its bright future. Apologizing in advance, this column will not entirely reflect that objective.

Our founding fathers provided us with two of the greatest documents ever written: The Declaration of Independence which we celebrate today and the Constitution. Those two magnificent instruments set us apart from every nation in the world, guiding us as we became the model for others to follow.

How would our founding fathers judge us today?

Thomas Paine’s musings from the distant past offers us a partial answer to that question. He wrote: “A thousand years hence, perhaps less, America may be what Europe is now…the noblest work of human wisdom, the grand scene of human glory, the fair cause of freedom that rose and fell.”  What would possibly cause him to prophesize the fall of the United States?

A significant concern was explained succinctly by Thomas Jefferson as he philosophized “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be.”  In other words how can an ignorant or poorly educated electorate possibly contribute to and sustain a vibrant and successful society? Even a minimal examination of our educational system will explain why we are failing our coming generations.  “To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant”

The 2015 world wide “Program for International Assessment” laid out the ugly truth so clearly we are unable to deny our failings.  Using average scores of fifteen year-olds from 65 countries the USA scored 24th in science, 39th in math and 24th in reading.  The study also found that contrary to the strongly held belief, money spent on education is the solution; it actually had little or no effect.

The reasons for failures are numerous.  Advancing poorly equipped students into the next class is rampant and destructive to the student and eventually society.  Concocted “political correctness” is being used in an effort to raise students self esteem and equalize the stature of struggling students.  Actually it destroys competitive spirits of other students and in the end fails to help anyone.

The most worrisome atrocities perpetrated on the students are professors who refuse to accept debate or opposing opinions from students. Students who disagree with professors on debatable subjects are forced to answer test questions in line with the professor’s demands rather than what might be correct.  Weaker students, sadly, will eventually accept and adopt what the professor espouses regardless if it is wrong!  A close friend confided in me her “Conservative” grandson passed a college exam by entering eight of ten answers to which he didn’t agree but rather what the professor demanded.

A Physical Education Instructor was recently asked to teach a Health Class in addition to her PE classes.  A significant part of the “health” class consisted of “facts” regarding Global Warming!  Additionally, another chapter instructed how one should assimilate with transgender individuals!  The students were receiving what they were told to believe.

Although many colleges and universities fail to provide badly needed Political Science classes there are many others from which to choose.  Following are just a few:  “Joy of Garbage” Santa Clara University, “Alien Sex” University of Rochester, “Arguing with Judge Judy” University of California, Berkley. “Maple Syrup” Alfred University. “Oh, Look, A Chicken” Belmont University.

A survey of college and university professors garnered very interesting data.  The professors teaching “Social Sciences” were asked to rank themselves in one of three categories. 24% acknowledged themselves as Radicals, 20.6% as Activists and 17.6% Marxist.  Those who taught in the “Humanities’ were the next highest with 19% as Radicals, 26.2% Activists and 5.0% Marxists.  “Business” professors ranked next but considerably lower.  5.3% Radical, 3.2% Activist and a mere 1.9% as Marxist.  We must however look at these percentages with a slightly jaundiced eye because in past surveys the participants often understated their positions.

Our founding fathers previously living in an Anarchy struggled mightily to establish the “People’s Law” in the balanced center between Anarchy and Tyranny.  For many years they struggled until our Constitution was finally completed and accepted.  Because of the diversity of 13 colonies thousands of compromises had been made to arrive at an acceptable conclusion.  Finally “People’s Law” balanced equally between “No Law” (Anarchy) and “Ruler’s Law” (Tyranny).  They trusted us to keep it balanced.

Why you might ask have I focused on our deteriorating education system in a column for Independence Day?  We must never forget Jefferson’s warning “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be.”  In my opinion we may well be on a direct and ever increasing pace to a disaster and uneducated students as well as adults may become our foes.  This has happened before when they were called “useful idiots” by a leader conveniently using them.  His name was Vladimir Lenin!

How inconsolable our founders would be that a Socialist masquerading as an independent was able to gather millions of voters who would have gladly joined Lenin.

The greatest disgrace regarding our election is the activities of our previous president and his fellow left leaning staff.  As we know, he has set up an organization called “Organizing for Action.”  They are behind the strategic and tactical implementation of the “resistance” we are seeing daily.  In plain words, they are attempting to delegitimize and destroy our duly elected president.  At last count his volunteers number 32,525.  If that isn’t enough we can count on the left leaning ninth circuit court of appeals and others with the same intent; the overthrow of our legitimate President.

President Reagan said, “Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction.  It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation.”

Heal Without Harm Coalition Memo on LRB 1927/1

Rep Amy Loudenbeck (R – Clinton), Rep Cindi Duchow (R -Town of Delafield)  and Sen Alberta Darling (R – River Hills) are circulating a bill that does NOTHING to advance the BabyBodyParts issue. First, it mirrors the federal bill. That already says that you can’t sell BabyBodyParts. Worse, the bill does nothing to stop the intrastate trafficking and continues to allow the research to continue. So by being silent on this issue, it actually sanctions the very activity we seek to stop.

I would encourage you to do your homework but this bill is nothing more than a showpiece. This bill should have never been drafted and it certainly isn’t prolife or conservative. Why would conservatives enable the abortion industry to continue their work then fail to provide legal restrictions for the trafficking and harvest of BabyBodyParts?

For those of you that may want to call or email, below is their contact information. Remember to be polite and don’t fall for the deflect that you aren’t from their district so they don’t have to listen to you. They’re the lead sponsors and this is a statewide bill.

BLACK AND BLUE AMERICA

Below is a column by Gary Mienert, re-posted with permission.  Gary has been documenting the conditions along the United States southern border with Mexico for a very long time.  In this column, Gary talks about the situation facing America’s law enforcement officers since the situation in Ferguson, MO with thug Michael Brown.

Black and Blue America by Gary Mienert

On August 9, 2014 Michael Brown, a black 289 pound 18 year old, was fatally shot by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer after Brown robbed a convenience store. Every American who reads newspapers or watches television knows the Michael Brown drama. During the same year 126 police officers in the United States were killed.  Can you name one?

From the outset the evidence was convincing that the officer had every reason to use deadly force to stop this well known thug.  Witnesses, both black and white, confirmed that Brown refused to obey every order given to him by the officer up to the end when he attempted to grab the officer’s weapon.  Brown is still venerated as a martyr primarily by the black community.  How could this happen?

Although numerous state and local agencies were well underway into their investigations, Obama leaped into the fray with the following statement to the press.

The death of Michael Brown is heartbreaking, and Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family and his community at this very difficult time.  As Attorney General Holder has indicated, the Department of Justice is investigating the situation along with local officials, and they will continue to direct resources to the case as needed.  I know the events of the past few days have prompted strong passions, but as details unfold, I urge everyone in Ferguson, Missouri, and across the country, to remember this young man through reflection and understanding.”

With his statement and that of Attorney General Holder the media flooded in and the explosion of news coverage began.  Literally, before the body had cooled Al Sharpton and his entourage slithered into town appearing to sympathize with the family but injected hatred for his own agenda. It was more than a dollop of irony and coincidence that Sharpton visited the president’s office just prior to his trip to Ferguson. His close relationship with Obama is evidenced by almost 70 such “hug fests” over eight years.

All the pieces were in place: A known thug killed at the hands of a police officer, Obama’s nationwide sympathetic messages, A corrupt Attorney General Holder inserting himself into the game, and Al Shapton stirring the community and interlopers into rioting.

The “Hands up don’t shoot” narrative and “Black lives matters” chant gave birth entirely by “The Ferguson Effect.”

That event in itself was the genesis, the lighting of the fuse for “Black lives Matter” riots which have continued unabated for over two years.  This was no accident, it was well orchestrated and it continues without pause until today.  Any death of a black person by the lands of law enforcement automatically becomes a cause for a march often leading to riots and deaths of officers.

If any doubts linger regarding Obama’s culpability we need only to look back to February of 2016 when he convened a room full of leftist agitators including “Black Lives Matter” leaders and praised their skills as “much better organizers” than he was. He continued by saying he “was confident they are going to take America to new heights” because of their “degree of focus and seriousness and constructiveness.”  Let that sink in while you recall the burned out buildings, the looted stores, the overturned vehicles, the injured innocents and especially the police officers killed or wounded. All were the end result of the very people in the room to whom Obama was praising. Families of fallen officers will forever remember the chants of “Pigs in a blanket, Fry ‘em like bacon” and “What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want ‘em? Now”

July 9, 2016 Obama declared “Right now the big concern is the fact that data shows black folks are more vulnerable to these kinds of incidents” referring to officer shootings of black men. Ironically Obama’s words were spoken only three hours before Micah Xavier Johnson shot and killed five police officers in Dallas, wounding nine others and two citizens.  Johnson was reported as saying he was angry over police shooting black men.”

Obama falsely claims “African Americans are arrested at twice the rate of whites.”  He, of course, conveniently omits the fact that blacks commit murder at almost six times the rate of whites!  The recent assault rate on American citizens is 229 per every 100,000.  During that time the assault rate on police officers was 9,300 per every 100,000. That’s a rate of 41 times higher than on citizens. It’s obvious with that data police officers aren’t anxious to fire their weapons even when assaulted!  The killings by police officers are less than 1% of the assaults on them.

The statistics when police officers kill their assailants is even more startling. The Bureau of Justice Statistics show the rate of black officers who kill their assailants is 32 per every 100,000.  The same statistics show the rate of white officers who kill their assailants is 14 per every 100,000, less than half of that of black officers.  The statistics come from a Harvard study, The Manhattan Institute and Bureau of Justice Statistics.

It’s of utmost importance how the “Ferguson effect” of “Black lives Matter” affects the police officers.  The Pew Research Center just released a poll taken on this very subject.  A survey of over 8,000 police officers from across the country was taken.  76% of officers are more hesitant to use force even when it is appropriate.  72% are less likely to stop a suspicious suspect.  Over 90% say their colleagues are worrying more about their personal safety than doing their job. .

Chicago, Obama’s home town carrying the title of “The killing field” just received the report from Obama’s Justice Department. “The Chicago Police Department engages in a pattern or practice of use of excessive force.”  Statistics, however, show that very little of the problem rests with a pattern of force by the police.  Black on black killings by any test is the culprit but Obama certainly wouldn’t agree with that.  The 2016 Christmas weekend in Chicago equaled 41 shot and 11 killed. A similar slaughter occurred on Martin Luther King Day equaled 39 shot leaving 10 dead.

Thanks to the residue of Obama’s racist policies toward our nations’ police officers and support of “Black Lives Matter” we can expect many to retire or relocate in safer environs. How can we possibly blame them?

ROBIN VOS IS A SNAKE!!!

If you are Pro-Life and truly want to see government reform, call Robin Vos’ office and demand they pass the Baby Body Parts bill this session.  Tell him we don’t need new taxes and increased spending on roads.
Republican State Representative Andre Jacque tells Media Trackers that he has been stripped of his Assembly committee chairmanships by Speaker Robin Vos as punishment for holding a hearing on prevailing wage reform legislation in the Labor Committee this past legislative session. A news release issued by Vos’ office Wednesday afternoon showed that Jacque was the only committee chair not to retain a chairmanship for the next session.”
It was also because Rep. Jacque was going to bring up the Baby Body Parts bill again this session.  So much for a Republican being Pro-Life!  Where are all the supposed Pro-Life groups demanding that the Baby Body Parts Bill is passed this session by Vos?
Call Robin Vos and demand the baby body parts bill is passed this session.  Demand that Rep. Jacque is restored to his committee Chairmanship.  Demand no new taxes for roads.

Happy Resurrection Day!

The meaning of Easter – What does it mean to you?

The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ’s victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all.

However, Easter did not always symbolize Christ’s resurrection from the dead and the meaning of Easter was quite different than what Christians celebrate today. The feast day of Easter was originally a pagan celebration of renewal and rebirth. Celebrated in the early spring, it honored the pagan Saxon goddess Eastre. When the early missionaries converted the Saxons to Christianity, the holiday, since it fell around the same time as the traditional memorial of Christ’s resurrection from the dead, was merged with the pagan celebration, and became know as Easter. The meaning of Easter was also changed to reflect its new Christian orientation.

Today, the meaning of Easter, for million of Christians, is that of honoring and recognizing Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, and His glorious promises of eternal life for all who believe in Him.

Windows 10 Can Collect Your Data For Gov’t Agencies – What to Do

By Heather Callaghan

Windows 10 OS – the ultimate Big Brother?

Of the 14+ million people who have recently installed Microsoft’s new Windows 10, there haven’t been many complaints until now.

The system is said to run more efficiently, but apparently someone only recently read the tome of a service agreement. Let’s just say that Windows 10 goes above and beyond good service and makes sure that you are being a good citizen. Who is the one really getting the upgrade, here?

Happy Independence Day!

From all of us at the Rock River Patriots, we wish everyone a happy Independence Day!

Today is an important day to reflect on Freedom and what it means to each and every one of us.  What are the costs of freedom? What is freedom to you?  Are we still even free?  What are you willing to do in the freedom fight?

What does freedom mean to me?  Here is the transcript of a speech I delivered several years ago at an event.  I know these are feelings echoed throughout the freedom movement.  I know I am not alone when I feel these emotions.

I am one of the members of the Rock River Patriots (RRP) leadership team.

I must admit it was a struggle for me to decide if I wanted to be involved with this event because as many of you know I’m not a fan of either party. I became disillusioned with what I saw as I became a conservative activist by people who are supposed to be on “my side”.  I saw how the leadership of the party attempted to control good honest patriots or play political games. It became obvious many in “leadership positions” in both parties do not have the best interest of the people in mind.

John Adams said: “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”

I would consider myself a constitutionalist.  An even better term would be an individualist, which is the constructive opposite of a collectivist. We are endowed with our rights by our Creator as individuals. As a Christian, I am saved as an individual.  I don’t believe in “the greater good for the greater number”, which is the essence of collectivism.  By doing so, the rights of the individual always end up being sacrificed for some purpose by the government.  Those rights are rarely, if ever, given back.

Even in the context of so-called conservatives, we have collectivism in the party system. Many patriots are afraid to stand up and go against the group because of what will happen from those in “leadership” positions if they do stand up for what is right.  This is something the RRP have personally witnessed in the Wisconsin Legislature, and continues to this day.

Much of what I say applies to both parties.

Both parties are guilty of violating our liberties every day.

The Democrat Party has been doing that by creating the dependency / entitlement / class warfare state.

The Republican Party aided by the Democrats has created a virtual police state to fight the war on terror putting into place measures like the Patriot Act that have been used against ordinary American citizens. Coincidentally, of all the bulk data collection used under the Patriot Act, it has not been used to stop one terrorist attack.

We see many in both parties as different sides to the same BIG GOVERNMENT PARTY. Our goal is not the interests of a party, but about doing what is right, moral, and constitutional.

RRP warned early on about the draconian measures like the Patriot Act being used against ordinary Americans. We were called conspiracy theorists, and told we are part of the tin foil hat club”. They obviously had to attack the messenger, because our message is reasonable. Are we so unpatriotic to ask that the government obey the 4th Amendment and obtain a search warrant? With all of the resources of the government, is it really that difficult?

On that note…I mentioned we have been called Conspiracy Theorists in an effort to make you believe that we are crazy, and our beliefs are not based on any sort of evidence.

What is a conspiracy? A conspiracy is simply an agreement between two or more people to do something. That’s it! History is full of conspiracies!

Look at the government actions in the recent past.  It is full of conspiracies:

Fast and Furious…Arming drug cartels as an excuse to restrict American’s 2nd Amendment Rights.

Benghazi…Letting American diplomats and security personnel die at the hands of groups aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood.  We still don’t know the real story!

The IRS scandal against TEA Party and Patriot Groups…Targeting us because of our religious and political beliefs.

Are all examples of a government out of control!  This is not freedom to me. These are the acts of a nation moving toward a totalitarian system.

Why don’t we have people calling for the abolishment of IRS in light of the scandal? The RRP have seen this abuse first-hand being targeted.

I know I’m not the most perfect person in the world.  God knows I learned long ago how imperfect I really am. I need a Savior because without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I would be even worse than I am already.

That brings us back to the whole issue of freedom. What do I think freedom means and where did it originate?

“Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.” – Ron Paul

The Declaration of Independence spells out the origin of our freedom. The declaration states that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To SECURE these rights governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

Our founding fathers had a deep knowledge of history and of natural law. Freedom predates government. Freedom originates from God. Ultimately, God gave us a choice in having a relationship with him. We have the ability to accept his offer of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ or reject it. The Bible tells us “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”

Our founding fathers understood that man is not fundamentally good, as many in the progressive movement would like you to believe. History proves just how bad man can be, and how government has been used by bad people to do horrendous things. We do not need to look very far back in history to see the millions killed at the hands of repressive governments.

What about the 50 million + abortions that have occurred since Roe v. Wade? Destroying an innocent baby in the womb proves how deeply flawed we all are. Consider the Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.  His “clinic” was an abortion shop of horrors. Babies were allowed to be born and then Gosnell would snip the spinal cords of these children. This is depravity!

Our founding fathers recognized the primary reason to have government was to secure our liberties. The government’s job is not to keep us safe.  It is to keep us free!

Benjamin Franklin told us those willing to give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither.

He understood (as they all did) that the moment you trade safety for liberty, the government will always end up taking more power and securing itself.

So what does freedom mean to me???

Freedom in its most basic sense, is the ability to live free from government interference into my life.  As long as I am not causing harm to someone else, I should be free to live as I see fit.

Freedom to me is being able to speak out and criticize my government without fear of being audited by the IRS.

Freedom to me is having a populace that is free to investigate the actions of the government without fear that their computers will be hacked by the NSA or journalists be intimidated.

Freedom to me is being able to give as much money as I want to support any organization, candidate, or charity I choose.

Freedom to me as a law abiding citizen is being able to carry a gun open or concealed without a permit.

Freedom to me is being able to own a gun that goes BANG, BANG, BANG with each pull of the trigger instead of just BANG, without jumping through every hoop imaginable.

Freedom to me is being secure in my person, my house, my papers, and my effects and only be subjected to a government search with a warrant signed by a judge.

Freedom to me is being given due process and a fair speedy trial by jury of my peers.

Freedom to me is being able to choose the foods I eat…even if I want to consume raw milk.

Freedom to me is allowing me to keep all the fruits of my labor and not be over-taxed and over-regulated.

Freedom to me is abolishing the IRS and instituting a consumption based tax system.

Freedom to me is being able to engage in commerce wherever and whenever I see fit without government interference.

Freedom to me means I can choose whether or not I want to buy health insurance.

Freedom to me means allowing unborn children the ability to choose what they want to do with their life.

Freedom to me means having a sound monetary system that is not run by a private banking cartel.

Freedom to me is having local control of the educational system, and allowing the parents to decide where their educational dollars go to educate their childen.

Freedom to me is only fighting wars declared by Congress with a defined mission, objectives, and time tables.

“It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad.” – James Madison

So now the question is where do we go from here?

The answer does not exist in the latest greatest personality or hopeful in any political party. As people, we are all fallible. Instead, we need to adhere to the principles of freedom. View every prospective candidate through that lens, and decide based on both their words and actions, if they friends of freedom.  If they have to do formulate agreements and pass bills in secret, they are not a friend of freedom.

Our founders understood that our Constitution is for a moral and religious people is wholly inadequate for any other.

Our first revolution didn’t start by a political party…It started in the pulpits. How many churches are failing their members by telling them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear?

God fearing men and women pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to do what was right and just. What are you willing to do for your freedom?

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure if we have removed their only firm basis: a conviction in the minds of men that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” – Thomas Jefferson

Only with God’s help can each one of you fulfill your calling. Only with God’s help will you have the strength to stand against all odds.

What is your choice going to be?
