The meaning of Easter – What does it mean to you? The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ’s victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all. However, Easter did not always symbolize Christ’s resurrection from the dead and the meaning of Easter was quite different than what Christians celebrate today. The feast day of Easter was originally a pagan celebration of renewal and rebirth. Celebrated in the early spring, it honored the pagan Saxon goddess Eastre. When the early missionaries converted the Saxons to Christianity, the holiday, since it fell around the same time as the traditional memorial of Christ’s resurrection from the dead, was merged with the pagan celebration, and became know…

On Holy Thursday, a story appeared on Drudge Report which stated that in private conversations, Pope Francis indicated there was “No Hell”.  As Pat Buchanan points out in his column, “Why then did Jesus Christ have to die on the cross?” In case you were not aware…The world didn’t come into being by a big explosion billions of years ago.  You are not here because of a series of mistakes millions of years ago in which life was somehow created violating every scientific law we know to be true.  Everything did not come from nothing. On the contrary, you are a unique creation by God with a purpose.  You are not an accident, but someone of significance.  After the Fall of Man, the world changed from it’s perfect state as did Adam and Eve.  Adam and Eve (and us) were created in God’s image, meaning they were eternal.  However they were no longer sinless, meaning they would die.  Because God is just, His plan included a place for the righteous (heaven) and for the wicked (hell) after they die.  Genesis 3 chronicles the Fall and God’s plan of redemption.  While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. What would our founders think? This is the fourth year I’ve been privileged to write a column for the Lakeland Times for Independence Day.  It is an honor for me to do so.  With celebratory intentions I’ve always attempted to write about our glorious nation and its bright future. Apologizing in advance, this column will not entirely reflect that objective. Our founding fathers provided us with two of the greatest documents ever written: The Declaration of Independence which we celebrate today and the Constitution. Those two magnificent instruments set us apart from every nation in the world, guiding us as we became the model for others to follow. How would our founding fathers judge us today? Thomas Paine’s musings from the distant past offers us a partial answer to that question. He wrote: “A thousand years hence, perhaps less, America may be what Europe is now…the noblest work of human wisdom, the grand scene of human glory, the fair cause of freedom that rose and fell.”  What would possibly cause him to prophesize the fall of the United States? Rep Amy Loudenbeck (R – Clinton), Rep Cindi Duchow (R -Town of Delafield)  and Sen Alberta Darling (R – River Hills) are circulating a bill that does NOTHING to advance the BabyBodyParts issue. First, it mirrors the federal bill. That already says that you can’t sell BabyBodyParts. Worse, the bill does nothing to stop the intrastate trafficking and continues to allow the research to continue. So by being silent on this issue, it actually sanctions the very activity we seek to stop.   I would encourage you to do your homework but this bill is nothing more than a showpiece. This bill should have never been drafted and it certainly isn’t prolife or conservative. Why would conservatives enable the abortion industry to continue their work then fail to provide legal restrictions for the trafficking and harvest of BabyBodyParts?   For those of you that may want to call or email, below is their contact information. Every American who reads newspapers or watches television knows the Michael Brown drama. During the same year 126 police officers in the United States were killed.  Can you name one? From the outset the evidence was convincing that the officer had every reason to use deadly force to stop this well known thug.  Witnesses, both black and white, confirmed that Brown refused to obey every order given to him by the officer up to the end when he attempted to grab the officer’s weapon.  Brown is still venerated as a martyr primarily by the black community.  How could this happen? Today is an important day to reflect on Freedom and what it means to each and every one of us.  What are the costs of freedom? What is freedom to you?  Are we still even free?  What are you willing to do in the freedom fight? What does freedom mean to me?  Here is the transcript of a speech I delivered several years ago at an event.  I know these are feelings echoed throughout the freedom movement.  I know I am not alone when I feel these emotions. I am one of the members of the Rock River Patriots (RRP) leadership team. I must admit it was a struggle for me to decide if I wanted to be involved with this event because as many of you know I’m not a fan of either party. I became disillusioned with what I saw as I became a conservative activist by people who are supposed to be on “my side”.  I saw how the leadership of the party attempted to control good honest patriots or play political games. On behalf of the Rock River Patriots, I want to thank you for all you have done this past year. As we look ahead to the upcoming year, we see there is much to be done. It is an opportunity to truly change Wisconsin for the better. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact and return our state to something great. However, with all that needs to be done, it is easy to forget why Christmas is so important in the first place. We continually hear the cliche that “the true meaning of Christmas is about giving.” Yes, it is the season to be giving, but there is more to the story. The true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of God’s gift to mankind. God sent his son, Jesus Christ to provide a means of salvation to a fallen people. Only by accepting God’s free gift of Jesus Christ, can we truly be free. I encourage you all to take the time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and thank God for his gift this Christmas season.
