Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We want to take this time to wish you a very Merry Christmas.  Many people like to think about all the gifts and celebrations that happen on this holiday. It is very easy to let yourself get lost in all of the festivities. It is very easy to forget what this time is really all about.  Some of us give each other gifts because we have been told in the past “Tis is the season to be giving.”

Christmas, however, does not have to do with the gifts that you did or did not get.  No matter how big or how small, those gifts cannot compare to God’s gift to humanity.  The gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ is the greatest gift of all.  “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” Mark 8:36

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we encourage you to take a few minutes to contemplate what this means for us.  The Creator of the Universe desires a relationship with each and every one of us.  He proved his love for us despite our sinful condition by sending Jesus Christ to be the perfect sacrifice for sin in our place.  “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

God sacrificed a part of himself because he loved us so much.

May God’s blessings be upon you this Christmas, and we wish you a prosperous New Year!

Upcoming Events

January 3rd is the deadline to file your papers to run for local office including county board and school board. If you want to make a difference, now is the time. These are areas that directly affect you, and you can make a huge impact.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

The Rock River Patriots want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  Please take a little time out of your busy schedule this week and give thanks to God for all His blessings.  Pray for this nation that there is revival.  Please pray for president-elect Donald Trump and all our elected representatives that they do what is right in the face of the radical agitators that continue to cause problems.  Pray for the nations law enforcement officers, who now have to deal with the racial fires lit by the Obama administration.  Pray for our troops all around the world and their families, who are doing the work they have been called upon to do.

Below is the text of the first Thanksgiving proclamation by George Washington during his first year as President.  It sets aside Thursday, November 26 as “A Day of Public Thanksgiving and Prayer.”

Signed by Washington on October 3, 1789 and entitled “General Thanksgiving,” the decree appointed the day “to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God.”

While there were Thanksgiving observances in America both before and after Washington’s proclamation, this represents the first to be so designated by the new national government.

General Thanksgiving

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLIC THANKSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;– for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;– for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;– and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

(signed) G. Washington
